President
I'm 25 and in my 2nd year of the 4 year graduate entry Medicine programme at KCL. My first degree was in Psychology and Philosophy and I have always found mental health, neuroscience and the mind really interesting. I like the way that in psychiatry, you are a medical scientist but all of your other knowledge, of travel, literature, religion, philosophy, art and everything else are all relevant in one way or another. It is the field of Medicine with the most still to be discovered and a really exciting discipline to be exposed to. Aside from psychiatry, I am a big fan of afternoon tea, scuba diving and living beyond my means.
Amitav Parida
Vice-President
I'm Amitav, a fourth year medical student and Vice President of PsychSoc. Psychiatry fascinates me as it integrates the biological, the psychological and the social aspects of medicine all in one. The mysteries of the human mind are hitherto little understood and this is what makes Psychiatry such a dynamic and exciting specialism both in clinical practice and research. So if you want to be Psychiatrist, have an interest in Psychiatry or want to know what Psychiatry is all about then I would strongly suggest coming to our events!
Charles Le Grice
Education Co-ordinator
I am fourth year Medic at KCL. I first became interested in Psychiatry while studying for a degree in Experimental Psychology, but became really fascinated by the specialty during my third year Psychiatry rotation, when I realised how much more fun it is to listen to someone tell you the story of their life than to sit and stare at X-rays all day.
Abigail Martyn
Publicity Co-ordinator
I am a fourth year medical student at KCL, having completed my intercalated degree in Experimental Psychology in Cambridge. It is that which first sparked my interest in psychiatry and having loved my NOP rotation, lead me to want to pursue a career in this field. Psychiatry is a continually evolving and changing specialty with many new things to discover. The overwhelming importance of good communication and the many unique patients there are to talk to makes Psychiatry excellent for those of us who like to chat (over tea and biscuits!)
Victoria Jones
First and Second Year
Co-ordinator
I am currently in my second year of medicine. I'm really interested in Psychiatry because I believe mental health spans many of the other specialities in medicine, and so is applicable across a broad field. I love living and studying in London and making the most of all it has to offer!
Marcus Sorensen
Web Officer
After various colourful degrees and career explorations in graphic design, complementary therapies and journalism, I am now a first year Medic at KCL, bringing it all together, and excited to see what happens next! It is difficult to envisage true health without mental health, so I have naturally gravitated towards "PsychSoc" to learn more. I can't wait to get to the third year Psychiatry rotation...
